The machining of cutter spiral groove, with large material removal and low processing efficiency, can be completed by the grinding process of large cutting depth and small feed with powerful grinding wheel. The grinding parameters not only affect the quality of the cutting edge, but also affect the surface quality of the cutting surface before the tool circle, and even lead to burns and micro-cracks in the spiral groove after grinding.

Although there are many reasons, the mainreason is that most of the material is removed from the cutter, introducing maximum heat and spindle load. Grinding wheels consist of thousands of cutting points. The more cutting points are in contact with the grinding part, the more grinding work is segmented. This allows each cutting point to remove a smaller portion. As the surface area increases, this will reduce the force applied to each abrasive grain and allow the abrasive to continue working until it is blunted, or the abrasive falls off. The reduction in chip size also results in finer surface finish of the workpiece and grinding wheel act harder.
